Family asks for privacy during this time.
On Monday, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar announced that her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, had passed away due to complications from COVID-19. Currently in Minnesota over 30,000 people have tested positive for the virus, and over 1,300 people have died. Over 116,000 people in the United States have passed away from the virus.
Mr. Omar was 67 years old. In 1995 he and Rep. Omar sought asylum in the United States after spending four years in a refugee camp in Kenya. In a released statement, Representative Omar said, “No words can describe what he meant to me and all who knew him. My family and I ask for your respect and privacy during this time.”
